i went to Sahalie falls and Clear lake last saturday w/ some int'l students. there r more ppl who r related to jpn or japanese in OR than in MN. i saw 3 japanese girls, 3 american women who lived in jpn more than i do, and 1 half-japanese girl. except the 3 japanese girls, everyone that i mentioned speak both english and japanese so fluently. they r totally bilingual.
they talked to me both in japanese and english. but i felt more comfortable wen i talked to them in english. that s bcz their looking is totally american (except the half-japanese girl)!! i felt a lil bit weird. i asked one of them which is easy to speak in english or in japanese, and she said to me, "japanese."
yes, they made rice balls (おにぎり) for us and used japanese wen they talked w/ each other like 「一口ちょうだい」. i really felt weird and interesting.
there r two kinds of ppl. one is an egg which means a person whose looking is white but inside is asian. (this fits them. their looking is white but grew up in jpn.) and the other is a banana which means a person whose looking is asian but inside is american (parents r asian but grew up in US). thats really interesting.
and the half-japanese girl mixed both languages. she talked like, "my sister came to c me this summer blablabla....って盛り上がってー、then my friend called me blablabla....." or "where r u from? kyoto!!??
that was so funny and i envy her.
